The Ayurveda Yoga Restructuring Massage AYM-ARYM in Koh Phangan (Ayurvedic Yoga Massage) is a body technique that combines deep massage with assisted stretching based on Yoga postures (Asanas). It is a supported massage, very deep, applied with a little oil mixed with Calamus root powder, a plant with exfoliating, detoxifying and stimulating properties.
Coming from the Indian cultural tradition of Ayurveda and Yoga, the AYM-ARYM method was initially developed by Master Kusum Modak, a student of the famous Yoga Master BKS Iyengar. Kusum has shaped this complete body work over the last 35 years, drawing inspiration from her practice of Iyengar Yoga and her experience of traditional therapeutic massage acquired from an old man, a massage expert in the city of Pune in India.
The Ayurvedic Yogic Massage lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. Like a Shiatsu or Thai massage session, it takes place lying down and sitting on a thin mattress on the floor. The treatment course alternates:
- Deep Tissue Massage, stimulates, harmonizes muscle tissues and fascia. In this phase, the person is in a state of receptivity.
- Assisted stretching, aims for a postural readjustment by a global stimulation of the muscle chains and a gain in a range of movement respectful of the limitations of each person. In this phase, the person constantly assisted by the masseur, can participate actively at will, engaging breathing and movement.
The goal of the ARYM massage is to mobilize the body in depth. This, as much at the level of the locomotor system and the visceral systems, in the fascia that connect them. Facilitates proprioceptive feedback and phases of deep relaxation inducing a process of release from physical and emotional limitations. All the stretching maneuvers used are chosen to mobilize and synoviate each joint with the aim of overall body reunification.
The treatment brings instantaneous beneficial effects on a physical, psychological and energetic level. Other benefits of ARYM massage.
ARYM massage is committed to providing the highest level of quality care.

HISTORY & MASTER KUSUM MODAK
Ayurvedic Yoga Massage was and continues to be developed by Master Kusum Modak of Pune, India, who has tirelessly dedicated her life to the creation and dissemination of this work. She has combined her knowledge of Ayurveda and traditional Ayurvedic massage with yoga, learned directly from BKS Iyengar, to create her own unique approach to Ayurvedic massage.
Ayurvedic Yoga Massage is a unique style of massage that combines deep tissue massage with coordinated breath work and yoga stretching. The session is performed on a mat for freedom of movement and breath flow. The deep tissue massage helps to eliminate knots and adhesions in the muscles, releases tension and prepares the recipient’s body for assisted yoga stretching.
Through synchronized breath work, the recipient is gradually led deeper into assisted yoga postures that help correct postural imbalances and restore harmony in the body. In keeping with the tradition of Ayurveda, herbal oils and medicinal powders are used for their healing properties.
These techniques include the use of the hands and feet as massage tools. The use of the feet allows for deeper, more thorough pressure through long, graceful strokes.
This unique, whole-body approach removes physical and emotional blockages, helps eliminate toxins, promotes good posture, improves breathing patterns, increases energy levels, and leaves the recipient with a deep sense of well-being.
Ayurvedic oils and powders are used for their healing properties. This technique will help to remove physical and emotional blockages, eliminate toxins from the body, promote good posture, improve breathing patterns and leave the client with a deep sense of well-being.
ABOUT KUSUM MODAK

In her forties, and due to a serious illness, Kusum Modak went to see an Ayurvedic doctor. Due to her despair, she started practicing yoga at the same time. The combination of yoga and Ayurvedic treatment brought a change and from that moment on, she began to recover.
Since then, she has decided to take her practice further and heal people in need, with the same method that had helped her recover.
Today, with the intention of passing on her knowledge, she gives classes in Ayurvedic Yoga Traditional Massage in Pune (India), where people from all over the world have the opportunity to learn.
At the age of 40, Kusum Modak had two encounters that would completely transform her life: the first with IYENGAR, one of the greatest founders and recognized Yoga masters in India and around the world.
Kusum became a disciple of Master Iyengar in the institute he ran in Pune – Maharashtra – India, which led her to more than 20 years of daily yoga practices and disciplines.
The second encounter that marked a turning point in Kusum’s life was with Master Limaye, a simple man, expert in the art of massage, with his own sensitivity and wisdom, which triggered a powerful healing force in Kusum, leading her to the path of massage.
For a year and a half, Kusum accompanied him every day, watching him perform impressive healings on people who already had a long history behind them with several attempts at treatment and indications for irreversible surgery. From there, Mr. Limaye subjected Kusum to an intensive practice of massage, and under his supervision, before his death, he professed: “I am sure that you will develop this practice that will take you all over the world” and he was right!
Kusum inherited from her master a simple, frank, direct and very clear way of expressing herself, sharing this treasure that is a mixture of simplicity and sophistication. The Master will stretch the body, untying the points of tension and, as she says: “little by little, the body will open like a flower, petal by petal.”
And today, now with the blessing of Master Kusum Modak, I thank the gods for this power to transmit this knowledge to all those who come to me in classes or in individual sessions.
Yoga and Ayurveda are the oldest systems of Indian philosophy.
The practices of yoga lead you to a state of spiritual appeasement and a deep experience of inner tranquility.
Ayurveda – the knowledge of life – is not intended to treat the symptoms of a disease, but to reach the root of the problem. Health, according to Ayurveda, is a state of balance where the mind, body and environment are in harmony. If any of these three elements are out of balance, the door is open to disease. Opening the shoulder blades and chest is very important to eliminate tension and shallow breathing. Blood circulates easily and everyone has the sensation of freeing themselves from an enormous weight.
Ayurvedic massage, in combination with yoga stretching, is a method developed by Kusum Modak in India 28 years ago.
