* There will be no classes on full moon and new moon days.
Full moon and new moon days are also considered days of rest. This may seem surprising, but the explanation is relatively simple. Human beings are approximately 70% water, so like all things of a watery nature, we are affected by the phases of the Moon which are determined by the relative position of the moon to the sun .
Full moons occur when in opposition to the sun and new moons when in conjunction. These two stars exert a gravitational force on the earth and create different energetic experiences which can be compared to the breathing cycle.
The energy of the full moon can correspond to the end of inhalation when the strength of prana is greatest. It is an ascending force that gives us energy but an emotional and somewhat volatile energy without really being grounded.
The energy of the new moon can correspond to the end of the exhalation when the strength of the apana is greatest. Apana is a downward-moving force that makes us feel calm and grounded, but not hidden by physical exertion.
Practicing Ashtanga yoga over time would then make us more attentive and adapted to the natural cycles of life. Observing lunar cycles is a way of recognizing and honoring the rhythms of nature so that we can live in harmony with it.
